“Școala Altfel” la ISS, Ediția 2019

Approximately 500 students, from preparatory classes to high school, accompanied by teachers, parents or grandparents, visited us at the Institute of Space Sciences (ISS), during the week of April 15-19, on the occasion of the national program "School Otherwise: Know More, Be Better".

A team of young researchers shared with visitors a little bit of their daily research activities, such as: interactive and virtual reality (VR) exploration of our Solar System; analysis of cosmic ray bursts recorded at the largest experiment in the world - the Pierre Auger Observatory; observation of solar-terrestrial interactions and polar auroras with the fascinating Planeterrella experiment; microscopic observation of particle interactions recorded in nuclear emulsions; space applications (telemedicine) for human health and security; analysis of facial features for the purpose of automatically determining emotional status in real time; exploration of a high-performance computing system (GRID) that provides computational and storage support for international experiments and space missions.

From small to large, from different counties of the country (Brașov, Prahova, Ilfov, Călărași, Constanța) and from the capital, they were fascinated by the everyday applications of space sciences, and we are even waiting for some of the curious little ones to join our research team!

We wish continued success to the children, as well as to the teachers and parents, in their daily efforts to educate the future generation.
