During the week of March 26-30, 2018, the "Alternative School" took place at ISS, during which a team of enthusiastic young researchers daily fascinated visitors with fundamental scientific notions, mini experiments and space explorations, even in a very attractive virtual reality environment. Over 400 students from preparatory, primary and secondary school classes, accompanied by teachers and parents, coming from Măgurele, Bucharest and Ploiești, crossed the threshold into our laboratories within the framework of the National Program "Școala Altfel: să știi mai multe, să fii mai bun”.
The students were able to become space explorers for a day, learning a little about the secrets of the research activities carried out at the Institute of Space Sciences (ISS) in Măgurele. Thus, the little ones discovered new notions about physics in general, and the older ones deepened some of the knowledge they had already acquired in class or at home about the evolution and structure of the Universe, the Solar System, a Black Hole or matter in general.
The visit program offered at the ISS was varied, attractive and adapted to the audience with interactive presentations, free discussions, small experiments for observing, for example, the phenomena that occur as a result of interactions between the Sun and the Earth, the ionization traces left by cosmic particles developed in the atmosphere, as well as other varied observations through the microscope eyepiece at nuclear emulsions, through the telescope eyepiece at the Sun and through virtual reality glasses at the Solar System and the Universe.
